During an appearance on Hyeri’s YouTube channel on August 16, Somi shared details about the challenges she faced while maintaining her signature bleached hair. Hyeri — noticing Somi’s consistently bleached hair — asked how she manages her scalp health despite the frequent chemical treatments.

Somi explained that she typically handles her beauty routines at home, skipping trips to the dermatologist and relying on DIY methods for skin care. However, she admitted that during the promotions for her song FAST FORWARD, her hair took a toll.

The extensive bleaching, dyeing and styling during that time caused her hair to break off, leaving her with a noticeable bald spot at the back of her head.

Reflecting on the experience, Somi confessed that the bald spot was so bad it left her feeling incredibly down. She mentioned that she had never been that depressed before and that it was a huge shock to her.

Do you know what happened before that? I had a bald spot at the back of my head. It was unbelievable — I was the most depressed I’ve ever been.

Somi also shared that seeing her friends, who are also idols, with shorter hair never seemed like a big deal to her until she experienced it herself. She realized how tough it was to have her hair cut so short that it couldn’t even move naturally when she ran.

To cope with the hair loss, Somi resorted to hair extensions and started taking better care of her scalp. She also began taking vitamins more regularly, something she hadn’t done before.

It felt like I was putting on a wig that people with hair loss use. I looked it up and got it done. Now, I’ve been very diligent with scalp care. I wasn’t someone who regularly took vitamins, but after this incident, I realized I had to. Things are a bit better now.

Fortunately, Somi’s hair has mostly recovered now, but she emphasized that the bald spot was much worse than anyone could imagine. She even joked about how her hairstylist kept pushing back the timeline for when her hair would fully grow back.
